Meet Adam Waring, Aussie Ninja Warrior

Born in Melbourne, Australia, Adam Waring is training to be the first Australian Ninja Warrior and the first Aussie to compete on American Ninja Warrior. He created his Aussie Ninja Warrior website to help create the amazingly supportive community in Australia that American currently has.

1. How did you first hear about American Ninja Warrior--is it popular in Australia?

Bizarrely, it was a young Olivia Munn that got me into American Ninja Warrior. The original Ninja Warrior show from Japan is called Sasuke, and I used to love it with all my heart. Eventually they had a couple of American competitors who were interesting, but I never really thought a lot about it until they showed Ms. Munn coming back a second time after training all year to pass the first obstacle--and that lead me to investigate and find American Ninja Warrior which promptly became my favourite.

American Ninja Warrior has only just started airing on Australian television, so for years and years I tried hard to track down episodes Due to regional constraints you couldn't watch them on Youtube or buy them from Amazon, so I had to convince overseas family friends to help me out. Now that Australian Ninja Warrior has been announced to air its first season in 2017, I think interest is very definitely rising. I think Australian Ninja Warrior could be absolutely massive. Aussies are extremely sporty and competitive, so I'm guessing it should fit into our cultural identity more than any other reality TV show.

2. What made you decide that you wanted to be on the show?

I've always been hugely into computers, even as a young kid. I'm an IT guy by trade and loved computer games and programming more than anything else. Predictably, I developed extremely severe RSI in my hands and was suddenly faced with not being able to do any of the things I loved and was good at.

I was devastated for a long time, especially after a huge number of specialists would each promise resolution, and my condition would get worse as time moved along. Eventually, while moping around and feeling sorry for myself, I found the Japanese Sasuke and became a massive fan, and that got me out and training and excited about obstacle courses. I was always terrible at sports, but obstacle courses I was actually really good at really quickly.

A year ago, my partner and I were ready to change life up and decided to move overseas. America became our destination and so it was decided by everyone who had ever met me that I should train and try out for American Ninja Warrior. Then a couple of months ago they announced Australian Ninja Warrior, so looks like I'll be heading back home for a bit of fun.

3. What's your training regimen been like?

Training has been really fun, but actually extremely difficult. Unlike most other sports and disciplines, you have to be good at everything because you have no idea what is going to be thrown at you. So, rock climbing and parkour are a good start, which I started learning last November, and then it's just a heap of exercises. I don't do weights at all because I want to be light and agile, so a lot of body weight exercises and then a heap of training on obstacles where I can and swinging off all the things.

I actually developed a few tendonitis/overuse injuries because I just threw myself into training trying to develop all the muscles and all the skills. Now I'm a lot smarter and have structured three rest days a week into my training week so that I give myself a chance to recover and give all the tendons and fascia around the muscles to develop.

4. Why did you need to move to Portland, Oregon, and what are your plans leading up to appearing on the show in 2017?

I ended up in Portland, Oregon purely by accident. We had no idea it might be the fittest city in America when we moved here. We had no idea there was so much rock climbing and snowboarding and cycling to do here. We only knew of Portland from the television show Portlandia, so really, we had no idea what we were in for. I love it here now; it's such a fun city, and everyone is so active and health conscious. It's amazing.

5. Would you tell us a bit about your website and anything else you'd like readers to know about you?

I initially started www.australianninjawarrior.com.au just as a way to keep track of my own training for American Ninja Warrior. In my training, I've found that America has such a vibrant and supportive community of Ninja Warriors--it's the course versus everyone, so all the Ninja Trainers, Rock Climbers and Parkour Freerunners I've met have been so generous with their time and knowledge that I wanted to share that with my fellow Australian Ninja Warriors, so I’ve changed www.australianninjawarrior.com.au to be a one-stop shop for this budding community and sharing my experiences and training tips. When I first started training, I found it really hard to find any information on how to start, what do to, how to tackle anything, so I'm trying to remove that barrier for my Aussie Ninjas.

Thanks, Adam!

Introducing Dunn Rite Splash and Slam Port Regulation Size Basketball Hoops

If you like both basketball and swimming, have you bought a basketball hoop for your pool yet? There are all sorts of different hoops you can find, and many people especially like the Dunn Rite Splash and Slam Port regulation size basketball hoops that are available on Amazon. This basketball set also makes a great gift for the family that has (almost) everything!

The hoop is durable and designed to stand up to all weather conditions. It's a rugged, sturdy system that is also easy to set up. The materials are made to avoid rust: all hardware is powder-coated aluminum or stainless steel, and the rim is vinyl-coated steel.

It's a very safe system to use as well. When filled with water, the polyethylene base weighs 500 pounds. The indestructible backboard measures 44W x 30H inches with a two-foot overhang, and it's made from reinforced polyethylene, with a hinged breakaway system designed to protect players from injury. The hoop also has a leveling system to make sure it sits properly on your surface, even when the surface has a slope.

Why not turn your swimming pool into an aquatic basketball court? You can adjust the rim anywhere from two to six feet above the water. The Dunn Rite Splash & Slam Port set comes with a regulation-size ball, too, so you can start playing right away. Plus the ball is designed to match the color of the hoop.

In short, this is a top-notch basketball hoop set that's designed to look great, meet regulation hoop size, and provide a safe and durable addition to your swimming pool fun.

Introducing NicerOdds, a Site for Comparing Odds

The people behind NicerOdds.co.uk have been comparing odds for over 30 years. Their website launched in 2003. You can find odds tables related to all sorts of sports betting.

As a newbie when it comes to betting, I was glad for some of the explanatory info about odds on the NicerOdds website. Basically, they explain that if you are going to do some betting, you would do well to compare and analyze the odds for different events to choose the odds that might help you maximize your chances when it comes to any money you're going to lay out. You can find odds for sports in the UK, US, and more--plus you can find odds for specific non-sporting events such as the Academy Awards.

You can also use this information for fun that doesn't involve betting, such as participating in fantasy sports leagues, etc. One thing I like about the NicerOdds site is that if you click on the sidebar for a specific sport, you can get an overall preview/profile of the current or upcoming season. For example, I clicked on the link for baseball and learned that my local Seattle Mariners have better odds that I realized to win the World Series this year. Go figure!

At the bottom of the sidebar, below the list of individual sports, you can also find links for "old odds" and "upcoming odds." These are interesting resources if you want to get a historical perspective on how the odds have related to the actual winners of events. And the upcoming odds can help you think ahead, especially to unique events. For example, the current list of upcoming odds includes the Eurovision Song Contest and the Nobel Prize for Literature (go, Haruki Murakami!).

The best part about NicerOdds is that the site has a straightforward, simple layout, and there aren't a bunch of ads or anything. It just feels like an informative site, not a site that's trying to sell you a bunch of stuff. And that's always a pleasure to find!

Intoducing FoosballTableforSale.com

Are you thinking about buying foosball table for yourself or maybe your spouse, kids, grandkids, other relatives, or friends? They are a pretty cool gift idea. If you have extra space in your basement or garage, well, it's hard to resist a foosball table. There's a new website, http://foosballtableforsale.com, which offers a rundown of useful information about the models of foosball tables available and how to get good deals on them by buying on eBay.

For example, did you know that there's a big variation in quality and price when it comes to foosball tables? On the less expensive end, you can find tables made of pressboard. Then there are more expensive models that are made from solid wood.

This website has a particular emphasis on a brand of table called KICK, and they look really nice. The components are made in the USA of high-quality materials. And the founder of KICK is a foosball player himself who brings his own interest, knowledge, and enthusiasm to the products the company produces.

Whether it's for recreational or competitive play, you can pick up some ideas on buying a foosball table on this new site.

Introducing Silverthorne Lodging, a Colorado Ski Destination

A friend of mine posted on Facebook the other day about the pleasure of thinking of wintery things in the summer, and I have to agree. And it's always a pleasure to contemplate vacation plans. So here's an introduction to the website for Silverthorne Lodging, where you can start planning a Colorado ski vacation right now.

Silverthorne Lodge started out as a single townhome that the owners bought to make available as a vacation rental, and then in 2010, they expanded to a second townhome. These are spacious and well-furnished rentals, each with 2000 square feet, four bedrooms, four and a half baths, and a private hot tub. If you want to go on a couples' weekend with friends, four couples can share the townhome and each will have a full private bathroom. And if you want to have a family reunion or other large party, you can rent both homes at once and comfortably accommodate 25 people.

The homes have stylish features like wood flooring and lodge pole beds. There are large windows which give you a view of the Silverthorne and Dillon valley, which is a beautiful area. In addition to skiing, you'll find a lot of other activities to do such as hiking, fishing, horseback riding, and of course shopping and dining out. The Silverthorne Lodging website includes reviews of a number of local points of interest.

For more information, you can check out the YouTube video below for a detailed introduction to the lodge.

Meet Marcelo Robalinho, Lawyer and Author

Marcelo Robalinho is a lawyer, with a Bachelor's degree from University of São Paulo – Largo do São Francisco, the most prestigious Law College in South America. He also has a Master's degree in Sports Law from University of Neuchâtel, in cooperation with the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES/FIFA). The author of Third-Party Ownership Of Football Players, Marcelo is partner of a Brazilian Law firm "Robalinho Alves Advogados" and partner in "Think Ball & Sports Consulting," one of the biggest football players' agencies in South America and Denmark, with clients around the world.

For more about Marcelo's book, visit this online bookstore, and see the book's Facebook page.

1. For those who may not have heard the term before, what is Third Party Ownership?

In soccer, this term means that one party, or more than one, hold a percentage of economic rights of a football player. The economic rights means the right to receive some percentage of money that club will earn when transferring the player to another club.

2. Why did you decide to write a book about this topic?

To try put more light over the topic.

This topic now creates big discussions in the "football world." The UEFA started one campaign to ban TPO, and some national associations of football (in England, France, etc) already ban TPO. On the other hand, a lot of clubs around the world use the TPO tool to survive and increase their competition level.

It's important to highlight that in transfer of many football stars, the use of TPO was involved; as a few examples, Neymar now in Barcelona; Falcão now in Monaco; Hulk now in Zenit Saint Petesburg; Tevez now in Juventus; etc. This puts the matter of TPO in newspapers every day, and sometimes the journalists write articles which convey big mistakes about the rules. My book attempts to try give more information to everybody.

3. What is your own experience regarding transfer involving TPO?

I worked as a lawyer or adviser in hundreds of transfers involving TPO, sometimes working with the selling part, sometimes with the buying part, and sometimes for the player. I have experience, too, with how to build investment funds in TPO.

4. What are some of the financial demands on football clubs that casual observers aren't aware of?

The casual observers think that the cost of football is only the players' salaries and transfers. This is a big mistake; each day the clubs are forced to improve the front office with specialists in several areas such as lawyers, social media, press, scouting, medicine, etc. The costs add up for the clubs from all sides, and for small and medium clubs it isn't easy to find sponsors and fans to buy products.

The possibility to allow to a third party to buy one share of the economic rights for a player gives small and medium clubs the chance to keep better players, make money and share the risk, because the big majority of players aren't sold.

5. Is your book intended for lawyers, or can all readers understand the subject matter you're covering? In other words, who is your intended audience for your book?

This book was written in easy language, not lawyer "language." One of my targets is to help the market to better understand this tool that is very common in south America and Iberian countries, and with this understanding, TPO could become more easy and allow fast transfers around the world.

I believe that the book can be very helpful to lawyers, journalists, advisors in investment funds, managers of clubs, agents, players, members of football associations and federations, etc. For sure a soccer fan will enjoy the book to understand better what happens with his favorite club.

Thanks, Marcelo!

Meet Charles Mahoney, Author of Story of The Ghost

Charles Mahoney is the author of the novel, Story of The Ghost, available 1/15/14 on Amazon Kindle. This is his debut novel, one that has been in the works for 2.5 years. The author has a football background, having played for the University of Arizona. His story incorporates his experience in football with his love for the hero's journey--stories about extraordinary people who need mentors to help them along the way in overcoming their challenges.

1. What inspired you to write Story of The Ghost?

The inspiration is from my own experience when I was in college, playing football at the University of Arizona. Someone came up to me one day and called me "The Ghost." I had never heard that name before and sort of shrugged it off. Years later, I had the thought of what it would be like if someone was "put upon" like that, meaning: what if there were expectations placed upon a person who wanted to achieve a certain goal that were outside of that goal? What if things got out of hand and the person (hero) had to deal with the ramifications of what others thought about him and what he was doing? I used this as a way to build my story from the inside out.

2. Would you tell us a bit about your process of shaping the book, over the course of 2+ years?

I started from a visual sense. A scene was occurring over and over in my head, and I felt stronger each day about what I was feeling--that there was something good enough to write about. So I started to write from where I thought the story should begin. After a year, and maybe 50k words, I started over again, keeping things here and there and trying to write better. I then used flashcards to write my chapters, rather, ideas about them. Then I made note of the characters' world, whether it was my hero, antagonist, or any other. Using the flashcards helped me to spread them out over the floor (literally) and rearrange them according to dates and times. After about two years I was finished with the story, but from that point I had to go through it multiple times to flesh it out. A lot of times I had to delete what I call "long writing" and try and simplify it for the reader. Some of the stuff I thought was so great to begin with I had to cut it out. I wanted mainly to "show" rather than "tell," but some of my beta readers wanted more of that telling aspect, and I ended keeping that in mind as I went through it time and time again.

3. Where does your own experience intersect with that of the novel's main character?

My own experience has to do with playing football. My hero gets involved with the game, and I used a lot of my knowledge to write some unique sequences. I know a lot about the game, and I wrote from a very unique aspect of playing it. What I let my hero do in the novel has never been done before in the game of football--on screen or in a book--and I think it all worked out very original and how I wanted.

4. How does the landscape of Arizona feature in your book?

The desert landscape of Arizona, specifically Southern AZ, is vital to my story. The San Pedro River might even be a character in itself. I created fictional towns here and there and used Sierra Vista and Fort Huachuca for anchor points. Sunsets are important as well in my story since they are so wonderful in Arizona.

5. Now that your debut novel is complete, what project(s) are you working on?

I am looking to be inspired by another story, and I hope to start something soon. SOTG is what I call a "little story with big themes." I don't think I could write something like it again right away. My hope is that I can find another story close to me and bring it to life. And hopefully I can use everything I've learned to write faster than I did!

Thanks, Charles!

Misee Harris: Dentist, Spokesmodel, Innovator

You may be familiar with Dr. Misee Harris from her campaign to become the first African American Bachelorette on ABC's hit show. But did you know that Dr. Harris is a busy practitioner of both pediatric dentistry and sports dentistry?

When she was chosen to be a contestant on The Bachelor, Dr. Harris declined and chose instead to lobby to become The Bachelorette, gaining the support of many fans.

Professionally, Dr. Harris practices at Children's Dental Associates in Columbia, TN. She has a special interest in helping children and adults who participate in high contact sports to protect their teeth as well as other bones and muscles impacted by TMJ disorders. To this end, she is proud to offer a custom mouthguard that is not only protective but also quite stylish.

Patients can choose their favorite colors, including designs to match their sports uniforms. But most importantly, by choosing a mouth guard, patients are protecting themselves from serious injuries.

During sports activities, athletes are known to grind/clench their teeth together during training and competitions. In addition, high performance sports activities often pose a potential for severe dental trauma. These problems are all preventable by usage of a high performance mouth guard, that which will protect the athlete from trauma as well as TMJ disorders due to clenching and grinding.

For more information, you can call Children's Dental Associates at 931-381-9721, reach Dr. Harris via email, and visit her website at http://www.miseeharris.com.

Meet William Baxter of Absolutely Free Sports Bets

A professional gambler for seven years, William Baxter created a website called Absolutely Free Sports Bets to help educate people so that they wouldn't have to pay other people for their picks. On the website, Bill also makes a point to explain possible pitfalls, encouraging people to only gamble with that with which they can afford to lose. Check out his 8 Basic Rules of Gambling on Sports and his list of Top 10 Sports Gambler Mistakes.

1. Why do people choose to pay for gambling picks, and what do you see as the problems of doing this?

People who sell gambling picks are referred to as "touts." Generally, touts sell their gambling picks on the premise that they have some form of special insight or special information that the general public does not and therefore their picks are worth something. There was a movie written about the most well-known tout, Brandon Lang. Touts will explain that they have inside information that a player is injured and this information has not been released. I personally think that most Touts are a scam and people should avoid it like the plague. If you think about it, if they were so good at gambling on sports, they would not need to make money selling their picks: they could live off of their profits from gambling.

The most common "scam" that touts utilize: say a tout has a client base of 100 gamblers and he charges $20/play. He will release two picks one called a "Gold Play" and one called a "Platinum Play." He will give 50 of his customers the Gold Play and 50 of his customers the Platinum Play. The problem is the two plays are the exact opposite. Say Dallas is playing Los Angeles. The Gold Play is on Dallas and the Platinum Play is Los Angeles. He sold the opposite play to two sides at $20/each; he made $2000.00; the result doesn't matter. The next day, if Dallas wins; he puts on his website that his Gold Play is 1-0 and never mentions the Platinum Play. The tout makes a profit no matter what, but the gambler only wins 50% of the time.

Further, a gambler who pays a tout has to overcome the cost of paying for the pick. If a gambler pays a tout $20 and bets $100 and wins, he is only up $80; if he loses, he is down $120; had he not paid for the pick he would be up $100 or only down $100. Very seldom does a tout follow through with the promises made.

2. What can gamblers learn from visiting your site?

Gamblers can learn what to avoid in attempting to make money from a hobby. I guess that is the most important lesson. Sports-gambling should not be considered a way of life, but rather something fun. Most people do not have the time or money to dedicate to gambling for a living. However, people with the right knowledge can learn how to responsibly gamble and have fun and at the same time learn how to not permit gambling to take over their life, and actually make a little income from it.

Absolutely Free Sports Bets will provide insights on how to gamble, how much to gamble, what to gamble on, and what not to gamble on. A secondary lesson that any gambler--sports, casino, bingo, or any other gambler--is to only gamble with what you can afford to lose. Any gambler will tell you that there is no guarantee in gambling. If you think there are guarantees, then you will lose everything you put into gambling; if you know that nothing is or can be guaranteed, then you will be more cautious and careful.

3. How do you afford to keep your site free?

Honestly, I created the site for two reasons: 1) to educate people about the pitfalls and joys of sports-gambling and 2) to make money from the site. I promised myself that I would use my picks and articles to get people to the site and then make money on the site by selling advertising. There have been good months and bad months. I use gambling winnings to supplement the cost of running the site. For me it is a fun, interesting hobby that I have consistently made money from, and I wanted to share this information with as many people as possible. Trust me, it has not been lucrative by any means, but it has been fun.

4. What are some of the most common mistakes you see gamblers making?

I really see three mistakes that make gambling change from being fun to being a nightmare. First and most importantly is when people gamble with money that they can not afford to lose. The man who takes his rent payment and puts it all on a football team to win is destined for failure. The number one rule that any sports gambler should have is that he or she should only play with money that he or she can afford to lose. I think of it as entertainment money. Instead of going to a movie or going out to dinner, you are choosing to bet on a sporting event.

The second biggest mistake is when gamblers think that a particular bet is a "lock." A lock is a guarantee that something will win. There is never a lock in any game. Many sports gamblers think that when a gambler calls a play a lock, he has cursed the play and for that reason alone any one who hears the lock should play the opposite play.

Finally, I think the third biggest mistake that gamblers make is not knowing how much to bet per event. We explain on our website that the proper amount to bet per game is that amount which enables you to survive through a drastic losing streak. Essentially, you should only bet 2.5% of your betting balance on any given game. By using this system you would survive a 39 game losing streak.

5. In your years of experience, what have you come to see as the positive side of gambling?

There are two positive aspects of gambling that jump out at me. The first is excitement and accomplishment. To spend, sometimes, hours looking at a particular event and analyzing it and coming up with something you are willing to put out there attached to your name and actually risk money on your analysis and to have that result come through is exhilarating and satisfying. The act of having money risked on the outcome of a sporting event truly makes each play, each decision, each penalty, and each mistake impactful to you individually; this creates excitement.

The other aspect of gambling that is positive is the ability to make money. If a gambler follows a certain set of rules, that gambler can not help but make money. It is, however, when a gambler makes the common mistakes that they begin to lose money. Definitely, gambling provides exhilaration and profitability.

Thanks, Bill!

Meet Adam Dailey of Ludus Tours / Ludus Sports

Ludus Tours offers unique experiences for individuals and groups looking to travel and/or attend major international sporting events. As the entrepreneurial professionals who make up Ludus Tours say on their website, the company is about "a passion for traveling and a passion for entertainment, sports, and hospitality."

1. Why do people choose to coordinate their travel through Ludus Tours rather than their neighborhood travel agent?

People prefer to coordinate their travels through Ludus Tours over their neighborhood travel agent because the Ludus Team is comprised of sports savvy, passionate professionals with a genuine love of traveling. Here at Ludus, we create an authentic appeal to our events: something that your typical travel agent often lacks. Our staff have been to the events we sell packages for, loved their experiences, and decided to help you experience that same magic. The Ludus team have played sports all their lives and take a genuine interest in the success of your trip because we are just as excited to be at the event as you are! When you combine our traveling expertise with our love of sports, you get the Ludus touch.

2. What are some examples of events you've participated in around the world through your involvement with Ludus Tours?

One of the coolest things of this job is getting to go to all of these amazing bucket list events--and it's part of the job. I've got to sit down and watch the Closing Ceremonies of the Olympics and also run with the bulls in Pamplona! Our events are what really set us apart. We carefully select experiences where we have insight and passion. Things like the World Cup in Brazil and the Summer Olympics are typically staffed by former athletes who can bring something extra to the table.

3. What are the benefits of attending a big sporting event like the Super Bowl or the Olympics with a group travel package arranged by Ludus Sports?

The benefits of attending a big sporting event with a group travel package arranged by Ludus Sports is that you get seasoned travelers combined with passionate sports fans. We love our events and we love what we do. This will ensure that you get the ultimate travel experience.

4. Do you create unique tour events/packages based on the specific interests of particular individuals or groups?

We do create unique tour events/packages based on the specific interests of particular individuals/groups. Based on our collectively extensive travel experience, we know that not all trips are created equal. For instance, if you are an avid soccer fan and you want to attend the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, you may want to catch a couple of matches in a number of different host cities. We are happy to build out that package for you. On the other hand, maybe you want to explore Rio de Janeiro exclusively, World Cup games and all. The Amazon River, Christ the Redeemer, the Sugarloaf Mountain? It's done. We've got the perfect packages for you!

5. How did you personally get involved with Ludus Tours, and what are some events you're looking forward to over the next couple of years?

I got involved with Ludus Tours after I graduated from the University of San Diego. I've been a passionate soccer player/fan all my life, and I jumped at the opportunity to become part of a company that sells World Cup packages. It's truly a dream come true. Soccer aside, I'd love to check out the Summer and Winter Olympics. It would be exciting to be around such a buzzing atmosphere surrounded by the top athletes from all over the world. In addition, Carnaval, Pamplona and Oktoberfest have always been on my personal bucket list. Ludus Tours can turn my dreams into reality.

Thanks, Adam!
