Introducing South Anchorage Dental Center for Dental Emergencies

When it comes to dental work, there's nothing more comfortable than having a long and trusting relationship with a family dentist. And when a dental emergency comes up, you especially want to know there's someone you can call right away who will take good care of you and your teeth!

Dr. Broc Brimhall owns the South Anchorage Dental Center, a family dental practice in South Anchorage, Alaska. If you're having a toothache and/or find yourself in need of an extraction, you can't always wait to schedule an appointment during regular business hours. If you're experiencing a dental emergency, you can reach Dr. Brimhall's staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Some examples of dental emergencies are: broken or cracked tooth (or teeth), severe toothache, swollen jaw, lost or loose fillings, root canal, object caught between teeth, and dental trauma or injury. There's also more information about dental emergencies on the South Anchorage Dental Center website.

I know that it would put my mind at ease to realize that there was a dentist on staff at all times to help me in case of emergency. And it's especially nice to find this in a private practice, rather than having to go to the hospital emergency room. Dr. Brimhall and his colleagues know that it can be stressful and painful to experience a difficult dental issue--and it's common for something to happen very suddenly, as anyone who has broken a tooth or lost a filling can attest! So they work to get patients in as soon as possible, no matter when an emergency occurs.

It's a good idea to get immediate attention for a toothache even if you're tolerating the pain because toothaches can be a sign of something that needs to be addressed right away. If you call for an emergency exam, the exam itself is free: a dentist will assess the issue and advise you of the recommended solution. Sometimes this solution is an extraction, but not always. If you do need an extraction, Dr. Brimhall and his staff can perform the procedure quickly and efficiently, getting you back to feeling better as soon as they can.

Learn more about South Anchorage Dental Center at http://www.southanchoragedental.com. And if you have a dental emergency during their regular office hours, call them immediately at (907) 248–7275. For an after hours emergency, call their emergency line at (907) 602-3136.

Introducing dmi Networking, Specialists in IT for Dental Practices

As someone who follows small businesses and entrepreneurs, I can appreciate the value of a company that is filling a specific niche. Based in California in the North Bay Area, dmi Networking is helping dentists by providing information technology solutions and support. The people who started the company have 30+ years of experience in helping local business owners, and the staff are skilled in helping end users manage the necessary IT processes involved in keeping an office running smoothly.

Depending on the level of in-house IT expertise within a particular office, you can outsource some of all of your IT needs to dmi Networking. They offer a variety of IT services for dental practices such as secure encryption for email and data, network security, HIPAA compliance, and more. You can find help with getting your files online and knowing those files are stored safely on your own network and/or using cloud storage. You can even get help in making sure you have the best computers and other equipment set up in your office to meet your needs.

For Bay Area dental IT services, check out dmi Networking. I'm sure everyone has seen news stories about data breaches in different business environments, and medical and dental offices can be a target for data thieves. In other words, it's worth it to consult with professionals and outsource some of your information technology needs to protect your business and your patients.

Meet Dr. Hicham Riba, Author and Sustainable Living Enthusiast

Dr. Hicham Riba is a practicing dentist in the United States who graduated from New York University in 1994, and from Tishreen University in Syria in 1989. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Dr. Riba has also been a realtor in the state of Illinois since 2007 and is certified in real estate investments from various real estate institutions in the United States. He is an avid sustainable living enthusiast and author of Innovative Approaches to Sustainable Design: The Riba Green City Model.

1. How did you first become interested in sustainable design?

I've always had an interest in architecture and design. Of course when you have children, if you weren't before, you become much more concerned about the environment. I became hyper-aware of the environmental messes my children would be forced to deal with in the future, not to mention their children, my grandchildren--everyone's.

2. What inspired you to write Innovative Approaches to Sustainable Design: The Riba Green City Model?

It was the war in Syria. Amidst the heartbreaking daily reports of loss of life and devastating destruction, somehow green ideas began to sprout in my mind. These ideas multiplied by the day, and soon I simply could not shake the hope for a new, green, thriving Syria. In time, the opportunity to rebuild would present itself. We needed to be prepared. Instead of consumers, I sincerely believe each one of us possesses the ability to become a producer utilizing the best technology available and shedding our dependence on fossil fuels.

3. Would you tell us a little bit about your "green city model"?

It's a practical guide to creating a completely sustainable and agricultural city. I thoroughly explore all aspects of renewable energy and how we can apply them in every area from the individual housing units to the blocks, neighborhoods, communities, and throughout the entire city.

4. What are some things you do in your own life to be mindful of the environment and live in a more sustainable way?

I recycle, buy local whenever I can, blog, talk to my kids about the environment, and try my best to be a good example, because that is what they'll remember above all else.

5. How do you combine your work as a dentist with your interest in sustainable design?

In the workplace we are paperless. Everything is digital. The office design is also very agronomic, and we use green companies whenever we have the opportunity.

Thanks, Dr. Riba!

Misee Harris: Dentist, Spokesmodel, Innovator

You may be familiar with Dr. Misee Harris from her campaign to become the first African American Bachelorette on ABC's hit show. But did you know that Dr. Harris is a busy practitioner of both pediatric dentistry and sports dentistry?

When she was chosen to be a contestant on The Bachelor, Dr. Harris declined and chose instead to lobby to become The Bachelorette, gaining the support of many fans.

Professionally, Dr. Harris practices at Children's Dental Associates in Columbia, TN. She has a special interest in helping children and adults who participate in high contact sports to protect their teeth as well as other bones and muscles impacted by TMJ disorders. To this end, she is proud to offer a custom mouthguard that is not only protective but also quite stylish.

Patients can choose their favorite colors, including designs to match their sports uniforms. But most importantly, by choosing a mouth guard, patients are protecting themselves from serious injuries.

During sports activities, athletes are known to grind/clench their teeth together during training and competitions. In addition, high performance sports activities often pose a potential for severe dental trauma. These problems are all preventable by usage of a high performance mouth guard, that which will protect the athlete from trauma as well as TMJ disorders due to clenching and grinding.

For more information, you can call Children's Dental Associates at 931-381-9721, reach Dr. Harris via email, and visit her website at http://www.miseeharris.com.

You can also follow Misee Harris on Twitter and Instagram: @miseeharris.
